How To Optimize Distribution For You Blu Ray Disc

The three most important parts of a video release, as explained by one model, are marketing, Blu Ray distribution, and finally content creation.  Lots of people feel that the content greatly surpasses any other concerns, that a great video will immediately find a following.  A seasoned brand manager can tell you that even if you have an inferior and less popular product, an effective advertising campaign can actually help your product surpass its opponents.  They also know that a faulty distribution plan can foil the best efforts of both the video producers and the marketer's.

The Cabbage Patch kids from several decades ago is one of the most famous examples.  These baby dolls had a distinctive look, and were released to mass production a couple of months before Christmas in 1982.  Little girls fell in love with the toy dolls.  The dolls had such a tremendous success because of a strong advertising campaign coupled with such a large demand.  Demand far out stripped manufacturing in the weeks leading up to Christmas.  In that time, the most famous part of the story was the extent parents had to go to get one of these dolls for their expectant little girl.  Even though huge demand sounds great to the nonprofessional, professional business managers understand that an opportunity was missed, and the weakness in the distribution element of the Cabbage Patch Kids product caused suppliers to lose the profits they would have garnered otherwise.  More recently, the profits from the launch of the second and third Harry Potter publications was also decreased by weak distribution.  Intelligent business persons esteem distribution at or near the level of significance of the content creation and the marketing.

The choice for firms to set up the channel for Blu Ray distribution depends chiefly on two elements: the target audience and the estimated volumes.  The distribution operation has many outlets available to the distribution businesses.  Every one of these is controlled so that each outlet can achieve maximum profits.  The buyer market is the first outlet for the distribution regarding Blu Ray discs.  Included in this outlet are generally entertainment stores, discount stores, and online merchants.  It is important that each of these sell on the same day, in order to avoid an advantage to any one channel.  Afterwards it is released to rental portals, this is done through either streaming media or physical media.  These are deferred so as not to leach demand from the consumer purchasing avenues.  At a later date the content can become available to television and cable stations.

The actual distribution of Blu Ray during the consumer and rental release stages is essential.  It is very important during those times that the fabrication runs are completed and the right channels are in position.  Video producers do not want to annoy either the consumers or the channel managers.  In several ways the release of a Blu Ray is like any other commodity.  Alternate motion pictures provide plenty of competition too.  If you are launching a movie like Spider-Man or Star Wars, then competition is weak because there are no viable substitutions.  The model for distribution for these titles is a lot more like a monopoly.  Most movies do not get this luxury, as a romantic comedy may have three or more competitors at any time, though a consumer is only likely to choose one.  Effective distribution can make the difference in the choice.  When a consumer walks into their favorite retailer they are more than likely to choose the video they see first.

Matching the Blu Ray content to the right distribution company is generally best left to industry experts.  The many companies are competing.  A movie producer can let a broker endorse a distribution company as part of a power strategy.
